    The Story

To understand the Israeli army, is to understand the many threats Israel face on a daily basis

To get an idea of how the IDF responds to these threats read these quotes made after recent current events in Israel:

“During the 2014 Gaza war, Hamas rejected or violated 11 attempts to broker a ceasefire, its leadership safe in underground bunkers in Gaza, impervious to the suffering of their own people. – Gaza War Report, JCPA
“It was abundantly clear that IDF commanders had gone beyond any mandates that international law requires to avoid civilian casualties…In contrast, the Hamas “doctrine manual” captured by the IDF in the Shejaiya neighborhood early last August documents how the terror group urges its fighters to embed themselves among civilians in hopes that the IDF will kill civilians.” – Willy Stern of Vanderbilt Law School -
“Yes, the armed groups [in Gaza] are firing their rockets into Israel from the vicinity of UN facilities and residential areas, absolutely.”- CBC News on July 30, John Ging, the UN OCHA director (Gaza War Report, JCPA)
“Israel had gone to “extraordinary lengths to limit collateral damage and prevent civilian casualties in the Gaza conflict.” – Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey, November 6, 2014
“Each of our own armies is of course committed to protecting civilian life during combat. But none of us is aware of any army that takes such extensive measures as did the IDF last summer to protect the lives of the civilian population in such circumstances”- Multinational Military Report (former chiefs of staff, generals and politicians) on IDF conduct during last years war in Gaza
“The missiles that are now being launched against Israel, each and every missile constitutes a crime against humanity, whether it hits or misses, because it is directed at civilian targets. Many of our people in Gaza appeared on TV and said that the Israelis warned them to evacuate their homes before the bombardment. In such a case, if someone is killed, the law considers it a mistake rather than an intentional killing because [the Israelis] followed the legal procedures. As for the missiles launched from our side, we never warn anyone about where this missiles are about to fall or about the operations we carry out.”- Palestinian Ambassador, Ibrahim Kraishi, to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva told Palestinian TV
“The IDF “is going too far in its self-imposed restrictions intended to protect civilians, and that this may cause trouble down the line for other democratic nations fighting organized armed groups.”- Pnina Sharvit Baruch, Shurat Hadin Israel Law Center”
“Hamas wanted us butchered so it could win the media war against Israel showing our dead children on TV and then get money from Qatar.” — T., former Hamas Ministry officer. (For more testimonials by Gazan’s http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/4706/gazan-hamas-war-crimes)
“At least 160 [Gazan] children have been killed in the tunnels, according to Hamas officials.”- Institute for Palestine studies.
“It is Hamas, not Israel, which should be in the dock of world opinion; it is Hamas, not Israel, which should be the subject of outrage by human-rights groups. To ignore Hamas’ war crimes and crimes against humanity is to encourage terror.” – Hirsh Goodman
“Based on my knowledge and experience, I can say that during Operation Cast Lead, the Israel Defense Forces did more to safeguard the rights of civilians in the combat zone than any other army in the history of warfare. Israel did so while faced with an enemy that deliberately positioned its military capacities behind the human shields of the civilian population.” – Colonel Richard Justin Kemp, retired Commander of British Forces in Afghanistan
“I’ve known the IDF for many years, and as the person who accompanied the preparations for Operation Cast Lead, briefed the commanders in the field, and is well aquainted with commanders and soldiers of the IDF, I tell you that this is a moral and ideological army.” – 22nd IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi
“If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more ‎violence. If the Jews put ‎down their weapons ‎today, there would be no ‎more Israel’‎ – Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel
“Organizations like Breaking the Silence “publish partial testimonies and baseless findings,” and in doing so, “are causing harm to Israel”- IDF Maj. Gen. (res.) Eitan Dangot

    Message Printed By The Heart

“The ethos of the IDF is based on combining our strength with our righteousness; on the one hand, our need to hold a deterring sword against those who threaten to destroy us, and on the other hand, our continuous effort to establish peace. We fulfill this task with determination, while preserving our morality as Jews, as Israeli's and as followers of the 'Spirit of the IDF' - "Gabi" Ashkenazi, Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, 2007- 2011.
