    The Story

A hero is defined as a person or people who put their lives in danger to save others. Dafna Meir did exactly that on January 11, 2016 when she used her body to shield three of her children from a stabbing attack by a Palestinian extremist. Meir was not only a hero, but a nurse and a foster mother as well. She dedicated her life to serving those around her and bringing joy to even the toughest of situations.

Meir was 38 at the time of the attack which was witnessed by her teenage daughter. The attacker fled almost immediately after the assault. Meir’s husband, however continues to maintain his friendship with Palestinians even after the attack, considering that the family was close friends with people of Palestinian nationality. Her husband hopes to reconcile this act of terrible violence and combat it with a call for peace. He advocates that it is crucial to remember that not all Palestinians are terrorists, a principle that applies to peoples of all nationalities. Meir’s husband has explained, “I am not angry at anyone. We don’t fill ourselves with that… We’re not people who hate.”
